Method for liquid jet cutting of workpieces

The method involves the addition of a substance to the liquid before its exit from a nozzle (6). The substance alters the characteristics of the liquid to create an abrasive medium. The substance added can be liquid nitrogen and it is the physical properties of the liquid that are altered. Some of the liquid is turned into ice crystals. The physical change is reversed after cutting. The device used has a reserve (9) of nitrogen, added at a joint (8) in the supply tubing (3) carrying liquid from a source (4). The workpiece (1) is cut by a jet (2) of liquid with ice crystals from a nozzle.
