To detect unwanted substances in textile fibres flowing in air duct 9 a from a bale opener to a spinning preparation machine, cameras 15, 16 make reflected-light and transmitted-light images of the fibres, which images are evaluated electronically. Each camera receives light from sources 17 or 18, and 25 or 26, via mirrors 18 or 19. Image evaluating device 32 determines the degree of brightness and/or the colour of the fibres, and the degree of brightness of unwanted substances. This information is associated with the bale or group of bales from which the fibres are taken off. Then continuously measured values of fibre brightness and/or fibre colour, and of brightness of unwanted substances, are compared with at least one determined limiting value. When a value is exceeded, a display is initiated and/or flap 29 opened to remove unwanted substances. |
