The bed frame (10) and mattress are divided by an opening run right across the bed width. When the bed frame is at its lowest level, a wheelchair with seat frame and back frame folding down flat from upright can be wheeled in and bolted to the bed frame now acting as a support. In this condition the seat frame and back frame together span the bed frame opening (28) and the seat frame seating surface and back frame surface area supplement the bed mattress to give a lying area. Fixed bearers (30) fitted to the bed frame where this faces the opening ride over seat frame surfaces in the down position as against the raised position of the bed frame in which these surfaces support the wheelchair. The bearers have opposed bolt entries engaged by spring-loaded bolts projecting from the seat frame when the wheelchair has been wheeled into place. |
