<p>A method for controlled radical (co)polymerisation of (meth)acrylic and/or vinyl monomers involves mass (co)polymerisation in solution, emulsion or suspension, at a temperature which can go down to 0 degrees C, of at least one of the monomers in the presence of initiator comprising at least one radical generator such as an aryl sulphonyl chloride; and at least one catalyst consisting of metal complex of formula MAa(L)n (I), where M = Ni, Pd, or Pt; A = halogen or pseudo-halogen; L = ligand selected from those containing at least one N, P, As, Sb, Bi atom, at least two ligands being linked by bivalent radicals; a = 1-5; n = 1-4; and 4 ≤ a + n ≤ 6, a + n being co-ordination number of complex. Also claimed is a polymer produced by the above method, which has a molecular weight of 400-10000000 gmole<-1> and polymolecularity < 2.</p> |
