In an apparatus (1) for consecutively processing sheet-like record carriers (10), comprising a holder (10) for holding a stack (11) of record carriers (10) and a separating device (15) for separating the currently outermost record carrier (10a), which device comprises at least one separating roller (19) and a holdback member (23) with a holdback surface (24) for retaining all the record carriers of the stack except for the outermost record carrier (10a), the holdback member (23) comprises a wedge-like portion (66) made of a non-elastic material and having a bounding edge (67) with which the wedge-like portion (66) can be brought into contact with the circumferential surface (20) of the separating roller (19), and the holdback surface (24) of the boldback member (23) bounds the wedge-like portion (66) and terminates at the bounding edge (67).
