PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject inhibitor having activity for inhibiting production of TNF-αand useful for prevention and treatment for chronic inflammatory disease, acute inflammatory disease or inflammatory disease by infection by including a sulfatide as an active ingredient. SOLUTION: This inhibitor includes a sulfatide as an active ingredient and preferably administered in a daily dose of 0.01-50mg for an adult in one or several divided portions in the case of the oral dose. The sulfatide has a structure of the formula, exists in the white matter of the brain in a comparatively large amount, is important as a structural material of the myelin and specifically bonds to a basic protein of the myelin. The inhibitor is useful for prevention or treatment for TNF-αconcerning disease such as autoimmune disease, allergic disease, rejection symptom of graft, graft versus host disease, ostocporosis, cancer cachexia, disseminated intravascular coagulation and inflammatory response caused by trauma, etc.
