<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a carbostyril derivative useful as a treating agent for schizophrenia having a little side effect because the derivative has a high anti- apomorphine effect and a low anti-epinephrine effect. SOLUTION: This carbostyril derivative is represented by 7- 4-[4-(2- ethoxyphenyl)-1-piperazinyl]butoxy}-3,4-dihydrocarbostyril and its salt. An acid salt is readily obtained by applying a pharmaceutically permissible acid (e.g. hydrogen chloride) on the derivative. The derivative is effective in improvement of both negative and positive symptoms of schizophrenia and has a strong blocking effect against dopamine receptor.</p> |
