PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a purification method for producing a polyarylene sulfide having low metal ion content and excellent in physical properties such as color after melting with relatively simple equipment. SOLUTION: This method gives a polyarylene sulfide polymer from a slurry obtained after completion of the reaction of a dihalo aromatic compound with a sulfidating agent in an organic polar solvent and containing the solvent and a polyarylene sulfide, etc. In this method, an inorganic and/or organic acid is added to a slurry obtained after completion of the reaction and containing the organic polar solvent and a polyarylene sulfide, etc., to give a pH of at most 6, and a base is then added to the obtained slurry with a pH of at most 6 to give a pH of at least 7. This slurry is subjected to processings such as filtration, water washing, and drying, thus purifying a polyarylene sulfide polymer. |
