PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable to continuously obtain the subject compound in high yield and selectivity without generating a polymer as a by-product by feeding each component of a chromium-based compound catalyst in a specific rate to a reaction zone at the beginning of a reaction to initiate the reaction of an α- olefin. SOLUTION: In continuously reacting (B) α-olefin to polymerize into a low polymer using (A) a chromium-based catalyst consisting of a chromium compound (A1 ), a nitrogen-containing compound (A2 ) which is an amine, an amide or an imide and an alkylaluminum compound (A3 ), each component of the component A and the component B are fed to a reaction zone so that each of molar ratios A2 /A1 and A3 /A1 is made higher than the molar ratio in a stationary state to initiate the low polymerization reaction of the component B. It is preferable to feed each component of the component A and the component B to the reaction zone while keeping A1 and A3 apart not to come into contact with each other, thus, the objective compound can be obtained in high purity. |
