PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an acetal compound, enabling to easily obtain the compound in a mild condition by subjecting a carbonyl compound, etc., and a hydroxy group-containing compound, etc., to an acetal- forming reaction in the presence of a specific Lewis acid catalyst. SOLUTION: This method comprises reacting (B) a compound having a single or double carbon-oxygen bond (e.g. a vinyl ether, an aldehyde or a ketone) with (C) a hydroxy group-containing compound (e.g. a monohydric alcohol, a glycol or an oxycarboxylic acid) or an orthocarboxylic acid ester in the presence of (A) a scandium complex such as a scandium- perfluoroalkanesulfonylimide complex of the formula: Sc(NTf2 )3 Tf is a group of the formula : SO2 Rf[Rf is a <=5C (branched) perfluoroalkyl)} or a scandium- perfluoroalkanesulfonyl complex of the formula: Sc(OTf)3 . |
