PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable high efficiency decomposition of organic substances by a method in which a prescribed metal element is ion-injected into a porous material which has light transmission properties and contains an oxygen element, and a photocatalytically active species of metal oxide is dispersed into the porous material, fixed, and supported. SOLUTION: In a photocatalyst for decomposing and removing harmful organic substances contained in industrial waste etc., a prescribed metal element is ion-injected into a porous material which has light transmission properties and contains an oxygen element, a photocatalytically active species of metal oxide is dispersed into the porous material, fixed, and supported. In the photocatalyst, since the porous material has light transmission properties, undecomposed organic substances can sufficiently contact the active species so that the organic substances can be decomposed and removed efficiently. Transparent porous Vycor (R) is used preferably as the porous material. The prescribed element is 4d transition element etc., and selected from a group consisting titanium, vanadium etc. |
