<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve better flying distances in the both cases when hitting a ball with a driver, and when hitting it with a 5 iron by arranging three types of dimples each with three different dimple diameters as specified dimensions. SOLUTION: Dimples are arranged as a total of 484 triple dimples in an icosahedron-spherical triangle pattern. The outer circumferential rim of each dimple presents an equator 28 of a golf ball. The dimples 30 positioned at the pole of the golf ball can be removed to make a smooth surface for applying a trade mark and likewise, other dimples 32 can be removed for applying an identifying number. The dimples 34 and 36 are medium in size and larger among the dimples. Among the total of the 484 triple dimples, the diameter of the dimple 34 is about 0.140 inch, the diameter of the dimple 36 is about 0.150 inch and the dimple 38 is the smallest with the diameter of about 0.130 inch.</p> |
