<p>A catalyst for the manufacture of terpenes described in the process of the parent Specifications is manufactured by the incomplete removal of the base from ammonium tungstate prepared by allowing tungstic acid or tungsten trioxide to stand in an atmosphere of moist ammonia until no further increase in weight takes place. In an example, tungstic acid or its anhydride is mechanically maintained in motion in an atmosphere of moist ammonia containing 25 per cent ammonia until no further increase in weight takes place. The product is heated first at a low temperature and then to about 290 DEG C. with the passage of superheated steam, and is then, if desired, treated with water in an autoclave at 240 DEG C, the water being removed by evaporation to dryness. The product contains 0.5 to 2 per cent of ammonia. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the complete removal of the ammonia. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:In the manufacture of terpenes by the process described in the parent Specifications, there is employed as catalyst a material obtained by the incomplete removal of the base from ammonium tungstate prepared by allowing tungstic acid or tungsten trioxide to stand in an atmosphere of moist ammonia until no further increase in weight takes place.
