Process for the preparation of targets for the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) The process comprises immobilizing the target (cells, viral particles or nucleic acids) on a paper medium, which is brought about by imprinting from sections of fresh plant tissue or by absorption of their extracts or animal fluids on the said paper medium. The targets are subsequently extracted by solubilization with a detergent and captured using non-specific proteins of the target on insoluble supports previously sensitized with the said proteins, upon which conventional PCR or any of its variants are performed. This process is suitable for preparing and preserving targets for PCR which may or may not be related with plant and animal pathogens which permit their detection and identification.
