PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To select a specific virtual connection among a plurality of virtual connections by selecting the virtual connection in which a protocol header of a packet is in matching with a protocol header condition. SOLUTION: A virtual connection(VC) selection section 132 of an ATM adaptor control processor(ADP) 130 retrieves an address solution table to acquire a VC number in pairs with a communication destination address or a group of an ATM address and retrieves an extended address solution table 145. Then a protocol header condition in a table and a protocol header of a packet are compared and a definite VC number of ATM address in pairs with the matching protocol header condition is acquired and it is used for a destination address in an ATM network 150 and packet transmission is instructed to an ATM interface controller (ACTL) 120.
