PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To charge a secondary battery by effectively using the output from a solar battery. SOLUTION: The charger 2 for charging a secondary battery 11 at a constant voltage using a solar battery 1 as a power supply comprises means 3 for detecting the input voltage from the solar battery 1 to the charger 2, low-current charging means 7, 8 for charging the secondary battery 11 with a lower current than a high-charging current, depending on the voltage difference between the input voltage and the terminal voltage of the secondary battery 11, and means 4 for switching the charging mode of the secondary battery 11 between a high- current charging mode when the input voltage is higher than a predetermined reference level and a low-current charging mode when the input voltage is lower than the predetermined reference level, in response to the output signal from the detecting means. |
