PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To process color image signals inputted from a CCD or the like and to generate and record the color image signals including color sub images or black and white image signals including black and white sub images or to JPEG-compress and record the respective image signals. SOLUTION: At the JPEG color recording, the input color image signals from the CCD and an A/D converter are inputted from a selector 208 and inputted from a 10/16 conversion circuit 209 to a FIFO(first-in first-out) 213 and then, color images and the color sub images are generated in a video processing circuit 204, compressed in a JPEG circuit 202, outputted from the FIFO 203 and a bus I/F 207 and recorded. At the JPEG black and white recording, the input color image signals are passed through the 10/16 conversion circuit 209 and a clamp circuit 211, a prescribed coefficient is multiplied in the FIFO 213 and then, black and white images including the sub images are generated. At the RAW color or black and white recording, JPEG is not performed.
