摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent dark spots in a light emitting layer from growing by specifying the thickness of a protection film formed on the external surface of a lamination structure. SOLUTION: An element comprises a substrate 1 and a protection film 7 formed 3-30 micrometers thick on the substrate 1. The protection film 7 seals the external surfaces of at least an organic thin film layer 3 and an electron implantation electrode 6 and completely prevents water and oxygen from entering the thin film layer 3 and the electrode 6. As a result, dark spots in a light emitting layer are prevented from growing. The protection film 7 may be formed as either a single layer or multiple laminated layers. In the case of the film with laminated layers, the number of layers is preferably two or more and at least the lowermost layer is an insulation compound layer. In particular, if a two layer structure is employed comprising the insulation compound layer over which a metallic film is formed, the protection film is easy to form and luminescent brightness is restricted from lowering with time.
