METHOD FOR PREPARING CUSTOMER BAR CODE DATA

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the labor for data input and to improve the efficiency of work by preparing customer bar code data from a new ZIP code, an address display number and a check digit obtained from the office number data of a telephone number. SOLUTION: A new ZIP code of seven digits corresponding to telephone office number data is retrieved by using the office number data of an inputted telephone number. Then an operator manually inputs an address display number consisting of alphanumerics and hyphens while observing an address column. Consequently the 7-digit ZIP code and the address display number can be obtained. Then checking numerals are substituted for bar code characters by using a correspondence list between bar code characters and checking numerals and check digits are generated so that the total number of numerals becomes the multiple of nineteen. Then a check digit, a start code and a stop code are added to an address display part consisting of thirteen digits to complete the preparation of customer bar code data.
