The multiple level converter comprises a voltage source (SE) and a current source (C). A series of controlled commutator cells are interconnected with a series of capacitors (C1, C2, ...Cn), with a separate capacitor for each of its cells. There is also a control device consisting of an evaluation circuit (VMO1, 2, ...n) determining the average voltage on the terminals of each of the capacitors. A further circuit (VE1, 2, ...n) determines, for each of the capacitors, the eventual difference between the evaluated average voltage on the capacitor and the nominal charged voltage of the capacitor. A complementary circuit (MCC1, 2, ...n) then modifies the position in time of the control signal for the converter, in the appropriate direction, to reduce this difference between evaluated and nominal voltage values. |
