The exhaust pipe (10) carries exhaust gas charged with soot particles and its wall is at least partly perforated. In the perforated area it is surrounded by an outer pipe (12). A ring gap (13) is formed between the two pipes and is connected to a pressure gas source. The engine is provided with an exhaust gas turbo-charger having a turbine and a charger. The ring gap (13) is connected to the pressure side of the charger or with the inlet side of the turbine. Alternatively, the pressure gas source can be an air pump driven by the engine. USE/ADVANTAGE - With diesel-driven road vehicles, to prevent clouds of soot being discharged from the exhaust when sudden acceleration occurs.
