The foot pedal (11) of a type suitable for machine or vehicle operation can be hinged and is deflected by foot pressure applied to a pad (10). The pedal is protected against objects becoming wedged on the underside by a flexible bellows cover (14) that fully encloses the area. Bellows elements can also be configured for other types of pedals.
