Thermal and electrical combined energy plant

The combined energy plant has a combustion engine, an electrical generator driven by the engine and at least one heat exchanger for extracting heat from the exhaust gases and the cooling water of the engine. The engine is coupled to the electrical generator via a drive transmission, e.g. a continuously variable transmission, incorporating a retarder, e.g. a hydrodynamic retarder, with an electronic regulating circuit controlling the engine output, the transmission ratio and the retarder operation.
