The invention relates to a carrier composition for transporting (biologically active) substances into or out of the human or animal body, comprising: a) at least one mitochondrial uncoupler; b) optionally one or more driving forces for controlling the direction of transport; and c) optionally one ore more biologically active substances. The invention further relates to the use of the composition in diagnosis, therapy, prophylaxis and cosmetics.
