PROCESS AND DEVICE FOR DIRECTED SOLIDIFICATION OF A MELT

This invention concerns a process for directed solidification of a melt (1) of an alloy containing a basic metal in a mould (2, 3), wherein the mould (2, 3) filled with the melt (1) is introduced into a cooling bath (4) to effect solidification of the melt (1). A metal sheet (5) for nucleation is laid into the mould (2, 3) for directed nucleation before the mould (2, 3) is filled, so that one surface can be coated by the melt (1). Subsequently, the melt (1) is poured over the metal sheet (5) into the mould (2, 3) and solidifies. The invention also concerns a device suitable for this process.
