Phonetic control, input and communication apparatus with acoustic report-back means processes phonetic instructions using data derived from background noise. The apparatus comprises a user environment for representation of the entered functions, an interface for data transfer between an input PC and an automatic sequence control and a connection to a speech recognition module, a database for input and storage of entered variables and a user environment for parametrisation of the speech recognition.
