Position measuring system for moving relative to each other objects

The measuring system has an optical code carrier (7) provided at an object (10). A sensor system (6) is provided at a second object (20) for scanning the code carrier. An evaluation unit, determines the position of the first object relative to the second object, from the signals of the sensor system. The code carrier has at least two tracks (Sx,Sy) representing two differing track types. Each track type contains absolute position information in coded form for a coordinate direction. The scanning region (4) of the sensor system, at any position of the two objects, stands in engagement, and has at least two tracks of differing track types.
