Hypocycloid drive system especially for internal combustion engine

The drive system may be used in an internal combustion engine of a flat-four configuration. Opposed pairs of pistons are connected together by a rigid rod (24) with a circular enlarged central portion which accommodates a rotating secondary eccentric (23). There is a single crank pin (20) which is removed from the axis of rotation of the crankshaft assembly, and acts as a primary eccentric rotating in the opposite direction to the secondary eccentric. There is a bearing assembly between the piston rods incorporating an eccentric and there are bearings for the end of the crankshaft.
