The table (12) supports the patient and is mounted on a floor-mounted base (11) so that it can pivot relative to the horizontal in opposite directions. The table is supported via a pair of pivot bearings (15,16) which have parallel pivot axes lying in a horizontal plane. Pref. the table can be pivoted in one or other direction via electric, pneumatic and/or hydraulic devices e.g. a pair of electric setting motors acting on the pivot bearings.
