The mechanism comprises a base. A toothed gear is mounted to a read/write head. A device ensures the toothed gear is linearly displaced along a vertical plane. The toothed gear is movably mounted to the device. A threaded shaft extends from a motor (22). A second threaded shaft extends from a second motor (24). The motors are mounted to the base and a rotational axis of the first shaft is parallel to a rotational axis of the second shaft. The threaded shafts are meshed with the toothed gear.
