The valve has a valve housing enclosing a longitudinally displaced main control slide (13) with a control edge (23) controlling the connection between two working connections and a pre-control slide (33) operated by a proportional magnet (15) and positioned centrally within the main control slide. The latter is coupled to the pre-control slide via a weak spring (39), with a relatively strong regulating spring (51) effective during the regulation range of the control edge and the working range of the proportional magnet.
