Instrument for use in minimally invasive surgery

The surgical instrument has a fixed jaw (2) which is rigidly connected to the base part (4) of the instrument. A movable jaw (1) is connected via a joint (5) with a push rod (3) which is operated by a handle at the other end. In the lengthwise direction of the instrument both the fixed jaw and the base part each have a semi-circular groove (9) formed in them. The moving jaw also has a similar groove (10) in it as does the push rod. When the jaws are held together, the grooves form a continuous circular channel. This groove is used to hold an additional surgical instrument.
