In the outer skin (1) of the vehicle bodywork at the position for the optional hole, an outwardly direction burl or hat-shaped protrusion (3) is formed, which in position, size and cross-section corresponds to the hole to be made. The protrusion is then sawn from the outside with a saw cut parallel to the outer skin and at a tight distance to it. The formation of the protrusion is approximately to a depth which corresponds to three times the thickness of the outer skin.
