An element (16) which is to be maintained at cryogenic temperatures by means of a refrigerating system, is supported in thermal contact with a cap (14) closing one end of a thin-walled tube (10), whose other end is mounted on a base (12) forming part of the system and part of which is exposed to ambient temperature. Tube (10) is made of a titanium alloy containing by weight 6-8% aluminium, 1-5% vanadium or zirconium, 0.5-1% molybdenum and optionally up to 2% tin. |
