PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston for an internal combustion engine which suppresses deformation of a piston top face and generation of cracking in cutouts. SOLUTION: Cutouts 5 are formed on a tip 4 of a combustion chamber 3 formed on a top face of a piston 1 having a piston pin 2. In this case, the cutouts 5 are respectively formed, in respect to the longitudinal direction of the piston pin 2 from a piston axis center 7, in the direction of an angleθon the thrust side where the piston 1 pressurizes a side surface of the cylinder, and in the direction of an angleϕwhich is smaller than the angleθon the anti-thrust side. The cutouts 5 are formed in the direction of an angle larger than 45 degrees in respect to the longitudinal direction of the piston pin 2 from the piston axis 7.
