PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyolefin having a high optical purity simply and inexpensively by polymerizing anα-olefin having a highly bulky side chain in the presence of a catalyst comprising a specified optically pure organometallic complex and an aluminoxane. SOLUTION: A catalyst is prepared by combining an optically pure organometallic complex represented by formula I or II [e.g. (R,R)1,1'-bi-2- naphthyl-ethylene-bis(4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-1indenyl)zirconiuml with at least one aluminoxane selected among aluminoxanes represented by formulas III and IV (wherein R" is H or a 1-20C hydrocarbon group; and q is 2-60) (e.g. methylaluminoxane). Anα-olefin having a highly bulky side chain (e.g. allyltriphenylsilane) is polymerized in the presence of the above prepared catalyst to obtain an opticallv active polyolefin. It is desirable that the molar ratio of component A (in terms of the metallic atoms) to component B (in terms of the metallic atoms) is regulated in the range of 100:1 to 1:1,000,000.
