PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a nerve cell denaturation or perishing inhibitor that can inhibit death of nerve cells and is useful for treatment of such diseases as Alzheimer's disease by addition of a specific compound as an effective ingredi ent. SOLUTION: This nerve cell denaturation or perishing inhibitor contains, as an effective ingredient, a compound having a proteasome inhibitive effect, preferably a compound of the formula (R<1> is an acyl, amino acid moiety, or amino protective group; R<2> is H, etc.; R<3> is a single bond, alkyl, carbamoyl, etc.; R<4> is H, an alkyl, aryl, etc.; R<5> and R<6> are each H or an alkyl), lactacystine, lactacystine ofβ-lactone type or descarboxylactacystine. These compounds are obtained, for example, by purifying a culture of such microorganisms as Emericela bacuecolor.
