Method of disintegrating sintered carbide without coating and refining of recovered carbide powder

An improved method for disintegrating sintered hard metal carbide bodies with comparatively low energy expenditure and recovering hard metal carbide powder, having about the same granulometric composition as the original metal carbide particles and a high degree of purity which is at least the same as that of the original sintered metal carbide material. The method comprises treating the carbide bodies in a strong hydrochloric acid solution for a sufficient time to weaken the surface layer and mechanically disintegrating the so treated bodies by crushing or milling.
