The lock has a strike plate (3) and a housing (4) which protects the mechanism (5). The bolt moves along a trajectory (T1) in two directions (D1,D2), one towards and one away from the strike plate. The bolt (6) is activated by a key (7A) with a finger (7D) which activates the bolt. There is also a mechanism to activate the bolt by hand on one side of the housing which can be used to unlock the door. Stops (6A,6B,6C,6D,6E) attached to the bolt control the movement of the bolt in both directions. The bolt moves through three positions, open (P1), closed (P3) and intermediate position (P2) when the bolt is engaged in the strike plate but is not locked in position by the key.
