A resting base for an iron has a housing (30) which has elements (22) for feeding the iron with water or steam via a connecting line (26).The housing (30) also has a bottom surface (32), which rests on the working surface (12), and an upper surface (33) equipped with insulating neps (35) on which the iron base (16) comes to lie.
