Plantes of genus Mitracarpus (Rubiaceae family) are used to produce extracts useful in cosmetics for lightening skin, removing brown patches and enhancing skin complexion. Species M. Scaber Zucc., M. Villosus and M. Verticillatus, inter alia, may be used. The extracts are obtained by conventional (maceration, decoction) or novel (microwaves, ultrasound) methods and may contain variable amounts of phenolic, hydroquinone or flavonoid derivatives, particularly harounoside, a pentalongine hydroquinone diglucoside. Said extracts are preferably used in combination with bearberry (Arctostaphylos Uva ursi L.) extracts. |
