An optical plastic material absorbing rays of light in a specific wavelength range at a high efficiency, having antiglareness and other necessary optical characteristics, and reduced in water absorption and a process for the production thereof. This plastic material is an acrylic resin containing phosphate groups, amide groups and metallic ion components comprising rare earth metal ions. It is preferable that the phosphate groups be present in a state chemically bonded to the polymers constituting the resin, and it is still preferable that the polymers constituting the resin be ones obtained by copolymerizing a phosphate monomer of general formula (1) PO(OH)nR3-n, with a monomer copolymerizable therewith; wherein R is a polymerizable functional group of general formula (2) CH2=CXCOO(C2H4O)m-; wherein X is hydrogen or methyl; and m is an integer of 0 to 5; and n is 1 or 2.
