The method consists in that during an exposition of a heavy hydrocarbon raw material to ionizing radiation, said heavy hydrocarbon raw material is exposed simultaneously to accelerated particles in the amount of at least one positively and one negatively charged particle, ionizing radiation and heat. The apparatus which may be used to realize said method consists of a working body (1) containing a working chamber (8) with an inlet part (7), which is via a pump (3) interconnected with a storage tank (4) of the heavy hydrocarbon raw material and which is provided with heating means (9). The working chamber (8) is connected with a container (6) of the treated hydrocarbon raw material and its interior is provided with a set of hermetically sealed hollow sockets (10) arranged along its whole height and designed to receive internal sources (11) of ionizing radiation. External sources (14) of radiation are arranged along side walls (12, 13) of the working chamber (8).
