The appliance has a sensor which provides signals which are a function of the change of location resulting from movement of the person. An evaluation and display appliance converts these signals into displayable travel and/or condition information. The appliance can be carried by the person. The sensor operates in conjunction with one of the rollers which, during the movement of the person, rotates, at least intermittently, in contact with the road surface and is one of the rollers of the transport device. The roller associated with the sensor can be an additional roller used for measurement purposes.
