A packaging apparatus comprising a transfer unit (11) adapted to transfer a packaging bag (12) containing an object article (3) which has been cut off from a subsequent tubular film (1) is provided on the output side of a conveying unit (2), i.e., on the downstream side of a position in which a vertical sealing unit (6) and a cutting unit (7) are provided, an end transfer section (2B) spaced from the upstream transfer section (2A) is provided at a transfer end portion of the conveying unit (2), the end transfer member (2B) at the transfer end portion of the transfer unit (2) is movable toward and away from the conveying unit (11). The apparatus is further provided with a longitudinally movable unit (13) for moving the end transfer member (2B) of the transfer unit (2) backward with respect to the transfer direction when the operation of the vertical sealing unit (6) or the cutting unit (7) is stopped, and forward to the transfer unit (11) when the vertical sealing unit (6) and cutting unit (7) are in a released state.
