A hydraulically actuated rack steering device has a steering housing (1) that receives the steering gear (2, 4) and the piston (8). A sealing ring (13) of a packing (11) is reinforced by a sheet metal angle (15). The axial leg (16) of the sheet metal angle (15) projects beyond the length of the sealing ring (13). The packing (11) slipped on the extension (7) of the rack (2) can be positioned by the piston (8) in a shoulder (10) of the housing.
