Arrangement of non-return valve in gas pipes of internal combustion engines

A valve closure body (3) is mounted in an expansion chamber (4) of the gas pipe which is separated from the atmospheric chamber (9) by a diaphragm (8). The diaphragm is loaded by a spring (5) which loads the valve closure body (3) on the other side. Apart from the non-return valve action lower pressures than atmospheric pressure do not open the non-return valve since with the lower pressure the membrane is drawn into the expansion chamber and tensions the spring (5) so that the valve closing force is increased.
