An insulating material melting furnace including a cooled crucible (10) with a continuous metal side wall, a sectored cooled floor (12), and at least one field magnet (28) arranged under the floor and forming the only heating means. The level of the melt in the crucible and the field magnet excitation frequency are selected in such a way that said level and the internal half-radius of the crucible are smaller than the melt skin thickness resulting from the field magnet excitation frequency.
