Laser welding without auxiliary times in a production line

The method concerns welding with a constantly operating laser followed by a beam guide system with at least two beam deflection units with their respective beam focussing units. By simultaneous generation of a falling ramp for a weld seam on a workpiece (20) and a rising ramp for a seam on the next workpiece (22), with the workpieces successively moving at specified velocities relative to the beam focussing units (14b, 16b) in the direction of the beam deflection units (14a, 16a), the principal operation times are reduced by the times needed for ramp generation for individual seams. While the workpiece (22) is being welded, the completed workpiece (20) is replaced by a new one. Welding without auxiliary times within a welding cycle is made possible. Also claimed is a corresponding apparatus.
