Preparation of liquid buffer solutions with selectable characteristics

The preparation of liquid buffer solutions with selectable characteristics for use in biotechnology, medical research etc. is facilitated by employing a pair of soluble chemical solids which are mixed together in precise quantities and hydrated with chemically pure water to form the required solution. The solids are chosen to provide a wide range of pH values in aqueous solution by varying the mix ratio Puffer 1:Puffer 2 and the graph shows the excellent agreement between calculated and measured results. The method also enables the specification of ionic concentration and the degree to which any foreign substance e.g. calcium may be present.
